Hydrostatic Head Tester

The Hydrostatic Head Tester is used to determine the resistance of fabrics to water penetration under hydrostatic pressure. By applying water pressure to the specimen, the instrument helps identify defects, openings, or weak points in the fabric structure, ensuring the material meets technical and performance requirements under real-use conditions.

Working Principle:

According to standards such as AATCC 127 and ISO 811, the instrument operates as follows:

  1. Water pressure application:
The fabric specimen is clamped between two surfaces, with one side exposed to pressurized water.
  2. Gradual pressure increase:
Water pressure is increased continuously (in kPa or mbar) until three droplets penetrate the fabric surface.
  3. Result determination:
The pressure value at the moment of water penetration is recorded as the hydrostatic head (water resistance) of the fabric.

Applications:

  • Garment industry: Rainwear, sportswear, sleeping bags
  • Protective textiles: Chemical protective clothing, medical protective garments
  • Technical materials: Tents, tarpaulins, geotextiles
  • Quality control: Testing laboratories and material research centers
